In the tradition of previous Data Science Africa events, a summer school on machine learning and data science was held prior to the main workshop. This summer school targeted graduate students, researchers, and professionals working with large amounts of data or unique datasets. The DSA 2022 Arusha Summer School was hosted by the Institute of Accountancy Arusha (IAA) in Tanzania and ran from 18th to 20th July 2022.
The summer school featured end-to-end tutorial sessions led by professionals who guided participants through both introductory and advanced lectures in data science and machine learning. Participants engaged in moderate to advanced practical and tutorial sessions, gaining hands-on experience in wrangling and cleaning datasets and applying cutting-edge machine learning techniques to draw meaningful inferences from data.
Participants were required to have a solid foundation in the technologies and programming languages used throughout the summer school. Specifically, they were expected to possess basic skills in Python programming, Data Science, and Machine Learning. Each participant was required to download the provided Jupyter notebook, complete the exercises, and submit a ZIP file of the finished notebook through the registration form. Registration was finalized by submitting the completed notebooks through the designated link.
