Building Uganda's Data Science Community for National Development

DSA Uganda is the Uganda chapter of Data Science Africa (DSA), a community-driven initiative dedicated to advancing data science, artificial intelligence, and machine learning across Africa. The chapter brings together researchers, students, professionals, government institutions, development partners, industry leaders, and civil society organisations to strengthen Uganda's data science ecosystem and promote the responsible use of data for sustainable development. Established as the first local chapter of Data Science Africa, DSA Uganda serves as a collaborative platform for knowledge exchange, capacity development, research, innovation, and policy engagement. Its mission is to grow data science skills and encourage the application of data-driven technologies in support of Uganda's national development aspirations.

Our Mission

We are an all-inclusive network of data scientists, enthusiasts, and organisations inspired to grow data science skills and their usage to contribute to Uganda's development aspirations (NDPIII)

Our Vision

To create a vibrant, innovative, and collaborative data science community that accelerates evidence-based decision-making, research, innovation, and technological advancement for Uganda's sustainable development.

Our Objectives

DSA Uganda works towards the following strategic objectives:

  • Create an active platform that connects academia, government, industry, development partners, and civil society around data science.

  • Increase awareness and strengthen national capacity in data science through education, training, and practical learning opportunities.

  • Improve access to data science resources, including datasets, learning materials, scholarships, internships, funding opportunities, and employment information.

  • Promote collaborative research and multidisciplinary innovation that addresses Uganda's development priorities.

  • Support the development of policies and regulatory frameworks that encourage ethical, secure, and responsible use of data and artificial intelligence.
