The 2023 DSA event was held in person, starting on 11th and 12th May, and was hosted by the University of Rwanda in Kigali. The event provided a unique opportunity for both past and new participants in the DSA community to benefit from collaborative learning and networking.
The DSA Kigali event featured oral presentations showcasing data science applications from both academia and industry, along with interactive panel discussions that explored the latest trends and challenges in the field.
The theme for the summer school was “Harnessing Data Science for Africa’s Socio-Economic Development.” The goal was to improve community engagement in Data Science across Africa by empowering communities and researchers to consider their role in promoting responsible AI practices across the continent. Data science communities from all regions of Africa were strongly encouraged to participate.
The event also served as a call for abstracts for the workshop. Abstracts were invited on a range of relevant topics, including but not limited to:
- Data Science for the Sustainable Development Goals
- Healthcare
- Agriculture
- Education
- Wildlife conservation
- Disaster response
- Geo-spatial modeling
- Telecommunications data modeling
- Economic monitoring
- New data science and machine learning methods
- Language modeling
The workshop was scheduled for 11th and 12th May 2023, and registration was open ahead of the event.
The deadline for abstract submissions was March 31st, 2023.
