The Data Science Africa (DSA) 2024 workshop was successfully held in Nyeri, Kenya, from June 6th to June 7th. The workshop brought together a diverse community of researchers, practitioners, and data science enthusiasts, with a particular focus on African challenges and methods that are relevant to addressing problems on the continent.
At least one African researcher was involved as a co-author on each submitted abstract, and authors presented their research during the event, contributing to rich discussions and collaborations.
The workshop featured a variety of extended abstracts, including applied research, position papers, new methods, review/survey studies, and product demonstrations. Topics covered included:
-
Machine Learning
-
Artificial Intelligence
-
Robotics
-
Data Mining
-
Natural Language Processing
-
Applications of data science in health, climate, agriculture, politics, arts, and more
The summer school participants who applied were encouraged to share their research, and the event also witnessed strong participation from women and underrepresented communities in the field of data science.
We received numerous high-quality submissions, and the workshop provided a unique opportunity for attendees to discuss the innovative applications of data science to pressing issues in Africa.
